If you just purchased George V.'s C306 firetruck, it will indeed do 60+ mph. This truck has intermediate speed axles so it is faster then the military TGB13 but not as fast as the C303/TGB11. Very solid truck!

C306 top speed

Post by Roy Gardiner »

My TGB1314A actually goes "off the clock" downhill (with a following wind!) on UK motorways - so exceeds 100kph (62.5 mph)!!.
But you can't sustain that speed owing to the screams of pain coming from the mechanical fan/propshafts/tyres - not to mention the passenger!

I know the C303/TGB11/TGB1111 have the highest ratio diffs and can do 70 mph, but the 6x6 C306's (command car and ambulance types) have intermediate diff ratios (as Jim described above) except the (lowest geared) TGB20 LWB troop carrier.

You will need over-sized tyres (check George's posts) to achieve a comfortable 60mph cruising speed) handling at these speeds is so vague though I don't recommend exceeding that.

I just read on another thread in this forum that you had decided against the C306. I am not sure if this answer is even necessary at this point.

I think it best that someone with experince in driving a military C306 relate to you what they have experinced. You might want to contact Dennis Williams with Linden Engineering in Golden, Colorado. He recently completed a 6x6 truck for Red Robing to be used as corporate advertising. He has three more radio truck 6x6 trucks...all in very nice shape. I am sure he can clarify just what one of these trucks is capable of doing on the road. I met Dennis, Lynn and his crew today. A very class operation run by very nice people.

Hope this helps.
