Three questions from a new owner?

Post by Phil »

Any recommendations for replacement shocks and an aftermarket steering stabilizer for a TGB1312 (6X6 cab with radio box)? Please post make and model numbers if possible.

Also what is the function of the box mounted between the seats on the rear of the cab wall with two heavy cables going into it vertically from the engine compartment ?

Does anyone have a schematic for the inverter installed in the rear of the radio box?

Thanks in advance!

It is the voltge regulator for the engine alternator. The tgb1111 and the smaller c303's use a much smaller voltage regulator box mounted on the back of the engine tunnel on the passenger side. I kinda assume the big radio truck like yours had a bigger alternator for all the equipment.

Here some notes on the original shock absorber (Boge), and alternatives/dimensions:

Anyone know for sure?
I believe I have seen this discussion before on the Volvo C303 Mailinglist, but I don't recall any significant gain/swap-potential in that department, only that the radio-version had a special wiring system & electrical components, to limit radio-interference between vehicle and radio, but it seems to cause only problems with maintenance, no real benefit in the civil world.

We are familiar with both alternators and their remote regulator boxes.

Both trucks were equipped with SEV Marchal units however the c3036x6 radio truck employes the 100 amp derivative. Being physically larger the reg box was equally upsized.

When we installed a Webasto roof mounted modular A/C system to the roof of our prepared Red Robin Concept truck (see previous posts)we were forced to replace the 100 amp alternator, not because of capacity but rather the lack of a compatible performance curve to match the current demand of the A/C pack which is 65 amps on initial load.

The benefit of changing the alternator to a more modern unit is simply that SEV Marchal alternators and regulator gubbins are now no longer available. There are however several units that will fit in the space occupied by the original.

Working today on a couple of units we noticed this. This C304 has a 75amp alternator and this C303 has a 35 amp (according to stamps on case). Here are pics so it happened.(throw back to the Pinz group)

If I get time on luch will post pics of the difference in C304 exhasut namifold and down pipe versus c303.

Initially the c303 lexhaust manifod and down pip looks very automobile like(like the donor 164 model we used a while ago). Might be a source for manifolds.
