Volvo/ Pinzgauer Questions

Post by wyliek »

sorry if this sounds dumb but i dont know much about these vehicles but there are really sweet and want to learn as much as possible about them. They pretty much blow ANY American vehicle out of the water. I have seen pictures of the Pinzgauers and Volvo 300 series and they look identical, is this just me?? I have heard many things about the company switched around and doing all kinds of crazy stuff, was Volvo ever an owner?? thanks alot!

Wylie,

The trucks and their designs are two entirely separate entities. They both have a forward control lay out but then, so did the Jeep FC150/FC170 series and the Land Rover Forward Control 101 of the same era. At the time of their development, the forward control concept was more highly regarded that it appears to be now.

To learn more about these trucks, I suggest tow things:

1) find willing owners in your area and drive one of each

2) explore the internet for as much information as you can possible gather.

Hope this helps.

The storu I was told was that Volvo and Steyr-Puch went for the same NATO contract in 1972. They both came up with varaints on the same specification but very few of the Armies bought the vehicles.

They are very similar in profile but vary dramatically in all other respects. Keep looking and reading, there is a lot to get through.
