Has anybody taken the plunge and done an EFI conversion? If so, did you use the parts from a Volvo 164 or go a different route? Details would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

The previous owner of my TGB had a CIS system installed from an early 80's volvo. After a lot of parts replacing,(injectors,thermo-time switch, warm up reg and cold start injector) it runs pretty good. The only issue that causes irritation is a CIS system does not use a fuel rail as on EFI,therefore starting after hot shut down,I experience a form of vapor lock at the injectors. This system was not designed to be in the hot environment of the Volvo. A lot of time was spent on this and the start issue is the real bugger. If I go back again,I will look at converting to an EFI system from a later 80's straight 6 eng, ford comes to mind...

Hello
I would look into aftermarket or consider adaptation. I talked to the local volvo shop and he said that some of the vital components were getting hard to find. The comparable engines with the fuel injection are the B30E in europe (higher compression like the existing engine) and the B30F in US (lower compression, so no need for premium, but less output). Another shop said that there were some physical diferences in the heads such that a direct swap of the goods onto the carb head is not easily done. The best approach would be to swap from the head up. Best of luck.

How would an ice-age end without global warming?
Thanks Mark & Eric. I know that many of these modifications have been done (especially in Europe), but I would like to get some further opinions before I formulate a plan. The carbs have been causing problems and so EFI is looking more attractive.
Thanks,
Greg
