Cooling system help on a TGB 1111

Post by muttandjeeps »

I just got my 1111 this week, and wanted to change out the coolant. I know there is an expansion tank to top off, but is it used to fill an empty system? I removed the panel over the diff locks and the small horizontal plate only to see a "cap" with a bolt in it, with a warning of "DO NOT REMOVE SEE MANUAL". Nowhere in the service or owners manual could I find a real answer to my question. It seems it would take a while to fill it via the expansion tank (?)
Also, does anyone know the capacity of the system? (couldn't find that either)
Many thanks in advance.

Just get a pinz and then you won't have to worry about a cooling system!!!

Now a real answer. The cap on the rad is the main fill area, then fill the pressure tank. On a side note, when I had my rad built I had a pressure cap neck installed. The press tank is now an overflow tank and I vented the cap. I really did not like the idea of a 35yr-old plastic tank w/hot water under pressure that close to a passengers feet!

Mark, thanks for the real answer! The only thing throwing me off was the warning on the cap, if I do ever run in to the need to change the radiator, that sounds like a good idea! The old coolant didn't look so bad coming out, but it is changed and good to go for a while! Here are a couple pictures of "Hilda" with new tires installed today. Thanks!
