N.A.700AP turn signal repair tips

Post by Jim LaGuardia »

I have been working on the green machine (1972 700AP)and found there are no wirnig schematics for North American models equiped with 4 way emergency flashers to be found. On the N.A. models the turn signals are on a seperate circuit and do not share brake light functions, and use a single combination flasher unit. So here are some ramblings to save if you need to do your own trouble shooting.
(edited)Well I was wrong, Dave came up with a complete schematic and I uploaded a copy on my website in pdf format, it is a large file so be patient when opening, here is a link to the page http://204.200.199.239/haflingertechstuff.html
I started out with just wires hanging about and no switch on the collumn.
First locate the various components, like the warnblinkgeber(warning flasher)

The 4 way button assembly

The turn signal/high beam switch This is the same as a Pinz turn signal switch(and 1969 VW bBeetle) but only uses 5 of the wires. They are as follows, black/green stripe connects to the 4 wire multi connector opposite a double black/ green wire, same with the black/white wires, next black/green/white to white wire, tan/white to tan, and then ground the brown wire from the switch to the dash area. no need for the black wire or the black/red wire.

and the connection block:blk/grn=rt turn, blk/wht=L turn, blk/wht/grn=turn signal circuit to flasher, tan=tan/white=headlamp relay

I'll draw up a schematic as I tidy it all up.
