Truck bed shipping a NA Haflinger

Hi folks,
I'm trying to get a Hafi shipped, and I have one independent carrier giving me quotes to carry it in the bed of a 1ton Dodge Dually. Have any of you attempted to bed load your vehicles in this manor? I would assume even a long bed would require putting the front/rear wheels on the tailgate. I can't imagine the gate would enjoy that type of abuse.
Your thoughts?

Welcome to the forum (or at least to posting)
I have not seen it or done it but I have seen this picture and read that it beats up the truck bed pretty good.
It would be tough to load as well (over wheel wells)
Picture should help you decide!
Post some details and pics of your Hafi

I've carried my Haflinger in the back of my sprinter van many times - with the stock tires it fits between the wheel wells (50 inches) - I think a dually truck might have bigger wheel wells though?

Thanks. The shipper contacted me, stating "I will need to plank it to distribute the weight. We will load and unload with two long ramps. If your measurements cover the overall length and width it will fit fine."

I gave him the 135 cm width by 299 cm length for a standard 700.

I'm also worried about the inner wheelhouses impeding the Hafi.

I'll post pics once I get it here. This is my first... :-)

A SWB Haffy fits fine in a full size longbed pickup. Care needs to be taken supporting the pickup's tailgate properly. I remember doing a little damage to mine when I loaded it... it was 11 years ago

 Maybe remove pick-ups tail gate for loading?

An with the Haffy hanging out of the truck, you can't put the tailgate back on.

Where is it being shipped from and to? (Just noticed your profile) There are always trailers or if in the UK, you could hire a Transit type flatbed recovery vehicle which you can drive yourself on a car license for about £100 + fuel for a day. Maybe there is something similar in the USA?

John

I can PM the contact details for the selfdrive recovery vehicle to anyone who needs it (I think they have pickup point in several places in the UK.) I used it to collect my LWB 1973 Haflinger.

Found it as an eBay listing that ended without meeting the reserve in April. Contacted the owner, and asked him if it was available. Easy.
