Strange Haflinger

Post by TechMOGogy »

Anyone ever seen a Hafi like this?
Weird side cut out only on drivers side otherwise it looks stock!
Is this the 1st 'accessible' Hafi? :D

Maybe the owner had a wooden leg?

Does look like a standard Haflinger with the footwell side cut off and the side rail re-made to go down to the bottom of the footwell.

Anybody make out the extra bit above the load bed safety barriers? looks like an extension to the barriers that goes u under the canvas.

Trying to figure that out but I just stumbled upon it via the Wonderful World of Web
Kinda cool but I would be very worried about structural stability.

That's pretty cool. I'm thinking maybe some kind of delivery vehicle where the driver has to get out often. But then again, it has all those seats.

Just a thought, could it be based on a "skeleton" training Haflinger? Don't they have that bit missing?

They would have had to add a lot of other parts but from the looks of it - it is possible!

The sign in front of it says its a "1974" Haflinger - didn't production stop by then? Perhaps it was an "improvement" they were considering after the Pinzgauer was in production and had a similar easier entry/exit.

That is a "salesman sample" sorta speak Jim Maloy's brother Shawn has one he keeps at the Waldese Farm.
Even though production had ended by 74 several trucks were branded with the next model year in an attemp to sell of the last of the stock.

I thought all of them came with a little snorkel up front that pointed up but could be turned down when you lowered the windshield.. The one I drove came with a v-belt pulley on the driveshaft that could be accessed via a trapdoor on the bed between the rear footwells, useful for running a generator or air compressor from it.

I think only the Tropical Hafis has the front mounted air intake (cyclon).
