ignition switch replacement or mod?

My ignition switch is touchy, it only fully engages when turned all the way to the right, otherwise you need to press and hold the key to make contact. A proper bump will cause the switch to lose contact and it dies.

Are replacement units easily available?

Could i keep the stock unit for light operation and install a new key for ignition?

The switch works fine for the lights, its only the ignition circuit that cuts out. I'm giving thought to a hidden switch to energize ignition and bypass the key all together. I'll need to take a look at the wiring diagram to determine how feasible...

Another way to deal with it is to take the start function away from the old switch and put a start button in and just leave ignition running through the original switch.

Only issue would be where to put the start button?

Make another hole in the dash to take it
Make a bracket to hold the switch off the side or bottom of the dash?
Fit it in the extra hole behind the handbrake on the platform?
Use another foot operated switch like the dip switch?

See the last photos in the album. I added an extra Kubota ignition switch I had laying around to a spare part from our grill, and mounted behind the dash. :D Works great. Much more bump friendly. The original ignition still turns on the lights.

Biggest problem you have is finding a wiring diagram which actually matches your Haf! A lot of Haf's over the years have had "modifications" to them including wiring additions / changes and I bet you they weren't documented!

So once you have a rough idea of the wiring from one of your wiring diagrams that at least matches your ignition system, then you can trace the physical wires behind your dash.

I think you need to do a bit of tracing with a multi meter on the wires running from the regulator to the dash as you describe what sounds like a short circuit and then when the fuse blows, the electrical load is taken off the engine so the revs increase.

The start button is quite easy as all it has to do is act as a switch to apply electricity to one side of the coil of the starter solenoid, the other side of the coil of the starter solenoid goes to earth.
