Don't know about mounting, but that tread looks creepy -- like it belongs on the Aliens (the movie) set

Is a stock rim wide enough for them to fit correctly? What sort of diameter overall? Could make a significant difference to either Top speed or to torque available if they are very different in overall diameter.

Maybe buy one and try?

23" x 8" atv tires are commonly used on Japanese mini trucks with 3.5" narrow 12 inch rims.that come on these trucks. I have a friend's subaru sambar van at my shop that will be getting some soon.

Only concern is the ply rating and weight capacity - some are very low. Don't see either listed - but I am looking on my phone and perhaps the full chart didn't load.

Don't see a price of $30 a tire on Amazon - did it get changed?

There are some good deals on 5.00-12 and 6-12 tractor tires with a R-1 chevron tread - both are 23" tall and designed for 3.5 inch rims. Just keep in mind that 5-12's are smaller (21") and 6.00-12 are taller (25") - they are two different measurement systems with very similar designations.

They should fit but would have a large sidewall bulge.
I would be more worried about the load rating but if your just using them off-road, probably not a big issue due to low speeds

Great - sending you a message via email. Going to try to see if they fit on the Subaru Sambar - if not then they will go on my Haflinger.

I've used 23x8x12" ATV tyres on my Haflinger rims for some time now; they will fit on the standard 3.5" width and work well in most off-road conditions, with the exception of side slopes. I found that the tyre wanted to 'tuck-under' (i.e. roll around the vertical axis), as the rim was not wide enough to support the tyre sidewall properly.

To combat this I had the rims banded to 6.5" and this had a huge effect - it feels a lot more planted and stable on side-slopes now - worth considering if you drive this type of terrain.

Oh, and FWIW - they're horrible on the road.

Thanks for the input - I wonder what the "ply" rating is of the tires you have are? or the load rating of them? Some of the ATV tires are very low - especially in the narrow sizes on 12" rims as they expect them to be on the front of a light ATV.

I am considering adding a set of 12 inch weld-on beadlocks to a set of rims I have for use with the ATV tires - that would add to the width and might reduce the tucking in on side slopes some.

I just ordered six of the ITP Mayhem tires - will report back once I get them. They say they are "6 ply" but I haven't found a weight capacity rating for them yet.

Here is a link to the weld-on beadlock kit I am considering using - they say they offer them in 12inch sizes - it includes spacers to center the tire and allow better torquing of the bolts:

Finally got an answer on the specs on these 24x8x12 ITP Mayhem tires:

Rated Pressure 7 psi / 48 kPa
Rated Load 310 lbs / 141 kg
Rated Speed 50 mph / 80.5 km/h

So that is lower rating than I hoped... hummmm

Yeah - shame the load rating is that low
If you just using for off-road then they may still work?
