Pathfinder Prototype?

Post by Haf-e »

I saw this Haflinger at the NW Mogfest. Owner said it was a prototype of the NA Pathfinder and was in a Vermont farm for many years. I forgot to take a photo of the ID plate though - but it also had the heater boxes on the rear mufflers and no gas heater. The main difference was the headlight grills.

Anyone know anything more about it? Here are two pictures I took.

Looks like a Canadian model - perhaps thats what he meant by prototype?
Canadian models were all red, 1960's era and had 75km/h gears!
Light guard could be custom?

The two Canadian ones I briefly owned where small headlight style - not bug-eyed.

The one at Mogfest was a series 1 haffy also.

Apparently there were a number of late series 1 bugeye Haflingers made - the early ones had these different light guards:

"Prototypes, S1 - As there was only a very small number of "Bug-Eye" Haflingers made in Pre-Series and Series 1, the models of this eras are combined on this page."

The photo I posted is of a Canadian one - different indicator lights, side lights, 75km/h hubs vs a Pathfinder.
Steve in Halifax who's Dad was a Canadian dealer has a fully restored Canadian model (below)

Anyways - data plate may tell the story on the one you posted/saw

Hey that must be a Canadian model - it has front windshield defrost :) ha ha
Wow that was rough when it was found!!

Edit - just looked through the site and Steve submitted some of the photos - so looks like a prototype!

The 1st Hafi mentioned in this thread belongs to Toby. It was a VT/NH farm vehicle. I'm pretty sure it came down from Canada. Before the "Pathfinder" this was known as a NA spec vehicle (bigger lights, presumably since the small light bulbs weren't readily available in Canada or the USA.

The derelict one without wheels is also a Vermont truck, I believe located (at the time)in Stowe VT at the VonTrapp family facility (yes, THAT VonTrapp family.). There were 2 at the VonTrapps, with the 2nd being owned by Delmot. Despite they being brothers.. notice the light covers..
