Additional support for OEM canvas?

Post by audiocontr »

Military haffie - The canvas roof has collected enough water over the years that its stretched, creating a significant droop in the center, which only gets worse as it collects more water. I'm considering the creation of an additional bow either front to back, or side to side. Heck, 1/2" conduit would work.

Has anyone done something similar in the past?

How about using canvas / webbing straps running front to back and even crossways if you still have wallow puddles. Have you tried getting some of these types of things ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8x-Tarpaulin- ... 1a37a8376a ), which would allow you to pull the canvas tight.

We had a couple dozen rear hoops made up three years ago using an original Haflinger bow as a template. Wall thickness is slightly thicker than original. I have see some made using conduit and they do work but seem to sag in the middle of the top arch with time.
Not sure how many we still have left. I can get the tubing dimensions if that is of interest.

Take care.

I only have the front canvas with this one. Think the rear curve would work?

I know of several different front hoop (just behind front seats) profiles depending on the model. Round, oval and rectangular cross-sections are all possible. The overall general shape are the same but the there are definite differences in the exact outer dimensions. I would like to be more precise in answering your question but there are just too many variables.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
