You have your priorities all wrong - Haffies always come first not BBQs :D

While you have your steering box out, you should check the condition of the tube that carries the horn wire up to the steering wheel button. It's welded onto the bottom plate on the gearbox. My horn wire "conduit" rusted out and is now leaking steering gearbox oil out onto the floor...
My theory is that this happened to me as a result of no button being present to cover that tube and the vehicle being left out in the elements.

Striped and rebuilt it last year or was it the year before
Like I said - process is soooo slow!
I agree - good thing to check and your most likely correct re: the open tube

It seems to me that I used Mercedes tie rod ends out of a '76 240D as replacements for my Haflinger. Not expensive and easy to find new. Also, a Pinzgauer steering wheel will fit on a Haflinger column.

When are you going to start putting it together? All very well taking things apart - but don't you want to drive it?

Yes but seeing as I only get a hour or 2 a week it is just taking forever.
Half the problem is me and just making things as good (hopefully better) than factor new. Just something in me and at times it pisses me off as it just means more work = more time.
One day it will start to go back together and I can't wait to drive it on the 1000's of KMs of ATV trails we have here!

Well, there's only one person to blame!

Pull your finger out and start putting it back together..... I am sure there are a lot of other Haflingers out there that are in the same situation!

I have servicing / checking to do on Lurch before driving him to Holland and back for a Treffen in May.

Well, if I pull your leg hard enough, you might get round to re-assembling it! :P
