Hafi cleaning.. ewww

Post by cascade.king »

I was disassembling my Hafi a bit this weekend.. pulling the harness out of the engine bay and getting things clear for sand blasting..

I found the upper left and right corners of the bay (where the floor meets the bulkhead) was packed full of debris. Once the wires were out of the way, I poked at it with a screwdriver.. and found 2 huge mud dauber wasp nests. These things were full of spider bits, larval wasps, and what looked like scorpion bits.

Since my Hafi spent its life at Range Creek Ranch in Utah, and a good many years sitting, it doesn't surprise me.. but we ain't got nests like this in VT!

I smashed it all to dust, but did snap a pic of a chunk.

Nice find
When I lived in Tx I had them everywhere!

What media are you going to blast with?
I just purchased some walnut and glass bead but have not used either so looking for any advice before I start (next week I am off and it is Hafi week)!

Silica- "Black Beauty." Mine is rusty. I'm finding new holes all the time.
