Tops and doors repair

Post by Jim LaGuardia »

After much waiting, finally got all the bow and rods for my Bug Eye.
Using an old bow for a template, my friend Alan Draper made the missing bows for me, I just had to make and weld on the mountings.
Pictures!

My intentions were to do the slant back version first, but it was quicker to do the square back version first.
This is the bender he used.

Here is all hardware mounted and ready for tarp.

I spy a Warner & Swasey turret lathe in the background of one of those pics. Nice!
Almost looks like the one I restored a few years ago

So I found a little time to get started on making some rear doors using Steve's Cad file.
First had to build a flat jig as the bend is easier to deal with once the frame is welded together. When making jig, add 2mm to overall height to compensate for bend.
OK, here are some pictures:

Still have to assemble other side and add hinge and door handle mounts.
Will complete them as soon as I fix or replace my mig welder(wire feed died/plastic wire tension housing broke) :(

Both frames are done and on the Haflinger now. I will cover them soon and post more pictures.
The cactus borders(looms over) the driveway(17ft), there are 2 of them. They are a night blooming type and bear Dragon fruit.
When it blooms, it blooms 300+ large pale yellow stinky flowers :!:

Jim,

All my bows, roll bar, and doors on my bug-eye are in good shape. Let me know if you need any photos.
