Driver's side "safari"windhield body seal

Post by Jim Molloy »

Hello to all.

The original part numbers for the original seal between the left windshield frame opening on the front body section and the top-hinged window frame are: 1565430-4 or 1566368-5. The original seal on our 1975 AluZn TGB11 had dried out and shrunk with time. In the rainy Pacific Northwest, that translates to a damp driver.

Yesterday, we installed what appears to be a perfect replacement from Steele Rubber Products. Perfect timing as the truck was registered to make an appearance in a local Christmas light parade. Flawless function. The Steele Rubber Products part number is: 70-3592-99 and it costs $4.50 USD per foot.

Hope this helps.

Nice! I'm going to save this link for future reference. It's hard to source this kind of item for sure!

The bottom edge of the seal of my safari windscreen looks as if a family of mice have have been using it for sustanance throghout the cold Swedish winters so i will be making this seal soon as well. We call it "pinchweld" here in Australia and its commonly found in various profiles.
What process did you use to join the mitered corners?....gluing the rubber part seems straightforward enough but how did you plastic weld the plastic covered steel "C-fold" sections?
Got any pics of how it came out?
Cheers

One2Many,
When I purchased the product from Steele, I chose to order enough to complete two applications. While four cleanly mitered corners sealed with Loctite Super Bonder 495 https://www.steelerubber.com/super-bond ... 96-0495-96 would the the deal way to go, I decided to try an experiment. Our 1975 AluZn rebodied truck came from Sweden with a continuous one piece non-mitered corners front seal. At first, I thought I was setting myself up for failure but our first test run went fine. Heavy pouring Oregon winter rain and not a single drop entered the truck. Expedient fix but still not as precise as what I eventually plan to do. I plan to make up an exact mock-up of the safari window body frame for fitment of four piece mitered corner seals.

If the non-mitered seal survives the very wet Pacific Northwest winter, a quick fix may be all that is needed.

Take care.
