Volvo Sugga or is it!

Post by ScottishPinz »

Just back from an amazing 4000+ km tour of northern Europe right up into the arctic. Have to say it is not something I would have done in winter in the Pinzgauer. Was thankful for my Webasto heater which kept the van (VW T5 4Motion) warm even when sleeping through a minus 25C night.

At Saariselka in northern Lapland (Finland) I watched a stage of the Red Bull Riders Cup Ice Cross race!! The Finnish Red Bull Volvo Sugga was there but after speaking to the driver he explained it was all Landrover underneath! A quick look below confirmed this!

There's been a number of Sugga "restorations" (unnatural acts that is).
Here's one done in Canada on an F350 chassis :( Personally, I'd rather
see these left original, my $0.02

Some resto mods are well done.
This one looks ok (the Land Rover) as they did’t cut It up and change the body (however all the audio and visual equipment destroys the roof and interior)
The F350 one is really no even a Sugga anymore as they cut the body in 4 (lengthened it and widened it)
Shame

Look at what our wilderness has become...we now have to tag every animal on the planet!
If they don't change out that collar as it grows it will die from strangulation.
Sad

But your photos and trip are epic!!
Thanks for posting

The reindeer are semi domestic and herded by the local Sami. To reduce road deaths they put high-viz reflective collars on the animals. The reindeer will be closely looked after by their herders so I'm sure no risk of strangulation.

Thanks for that info - when I 1st saw it I just assumed some government agency was tagging everything in site to track it (like they do with birds)!
Cool they are semi-domesticated like cattle
