Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help with what wheel nut size I need to consider when ordering wheel locking nuts?

As far as I can remember the thread of the lugs is M14x1,5 .
S-Tec calls them "ball-joint nut" on their website, this indicates a spherical contact area towards the rim, not a conical like e.g. required for current Transit rims.

don't get me wrong, the lugs offered by S-Tec are the standard lugs you have on your truck..
They have no locking lugs in their offerings.

I kind of guessed that but have found loads on Amazon with the right thread configuration but not so much in regards to the 'ball-joint'.

Be EXTREMELY careful. If you are using the standard wheels the lug nuts
are M14x1.5mm BALL seat. That is, the seat is formed as a sphere -- as
Albert had indicated. There's no locking per se other than the seat under
a torqued load. And my advise -- don't torque beyond 100 ft-lbs, then after
about 50 miles re-torque again to 100 ft-lbs.

Porche 911 uses the same lug size and seat.

Thanks for the heads up. This will be only for wheel locking nuts. Can you confirm the 911 locking nuts may 'possibly' work?

I don't know what you mean by wheel "Locking nuts" ??

And I just noticed you are under the "Diesel Pinz" section
and not the Gasser Pinz section.

Someone with a 716/718 might want to jump in and respond.

I'm curious why you recommend torqueing to 100 ft-lbs. The 710/712 service manual specifies 200 Nm (147.5 Ft Lbs). I've always torqued to 145 Ft Lbs and have had no issues. Are there different specs for the 716/718 series?

Couple of reasons. First 100 ft-lbs is more than sufficient for a M14 stud.

The primary reason for reduced torque is one of thread wear potentially
leading to failure. At 200 Nm, that is actually beyond the recommended
limit for 8.8 hardness. I also got a recommendation from Scott @ EI, a
number of years ago, which I am sure they have seen 1,000's of cases.

I also apply a reduced torque to the limit-straps and shock mounts for the
same reason.

Oh, and BTW Porche M14x1.5mm torque is 130 Nm or 96 ft-lbs.

Well the 710/712 uses nuts.....the 716/718 uses bolds

As Joeri has said. TDs use a bolt, not a nut.

People need to be careful what they post in the sections. What may apply to a gas Pinz will probably not apply to TD, and vice versa.
