Brake disc wear.

Can anyone offer some advice. The brakes on my truck (716) have gotten progressively worse and after inspection I have changed the front pads that were very worn. The rear were ok still. However the braking has not improved so I've taken it to a mechanic who believes the discs on the front are worn out ( they measure 11 mm now, I think they are 13 mm new??) also they are a little grooved. The brakes don't feel spongy and the vacuum pump is working but they just don't pull up great like they are not biting or glazed. I can't lick them up. They are not contaminated with oil either. I have one rear offside disc with the outer third of diameter not making contact with pad but all others look ok. My mechanic says the new pads will take a while to bed in to old worn discs. And that's what's up with brakes?? The pads are genuine parts.
Any ideas?
Do I need new discs?
Are they too worn to machine?
I have seen discs for sale by Premier Factors in the uk £ 216 a pair . Are they ok ? Are there any other alternatives as shipping to Australia is £ 175 extra!
All help gratefully received .
Tyron

Minimum allowable disc thickness is 11.0mm (it's etched on the discs) so if they are stuffed your only alternative is to replace them.

As there are only two TD's in Australia (3 including yours) you won't find much in the way of spare parts here and NOTHING in the way of brake discs.....believe me, I've spent two years talking to brake suppliers/manufacturers etc here and I'm in the same boat as you (they appear to be Pinzgauer specific).....I even looked at making a pattern, casting then machining some but it wasn't cost effective.
Eventually I'II bite the bullet and buy two new front discs.

A short term option, may be to swap the back and front discs as the front do a lot more work (and there is two calipers working on each as opposed the rears, one) hence the rear discs maybe in better shape.

This may be way way off base, but have you considered fitting an aftermarket 2-piece rotor and "hat" assembly such as something from Wilwood Engineering? I don't have a clue as to whether there is a combination that could be made to work, but it might be worth a look. I don't see factory replacement disks listed at http://www.puch.at, so I'm guessing they're the kind of stuff that requires a Swiss Bank Account to afford :(
