Jerry can holder

Post by bernhard »

Anyone know of a jerry can holder that mounts them upright. I’m thinking of mounting some on my K as in this pictures but have not found any.

Thanks

Hi Bernard,

What a hoot! That's a picture of the Pinz I just bought.

In that photo, the jerry can is held in place with 2 straps. There is a small ledge that they rest on, but I'm always afraid they're going to fall off.

I would much prefer something like this:

I just don't know where to get one (or 2 in my case).
I'm going to check the links that Charles submitted.

Check with Cold War Remarketing. They have a newly designed rack for K's that is fitted above the spare in the back. It is not my cup of tea because the Jerry cans sit up too high, but it is another alternative.

Used a couple of these blitz can setups on mine, they seem to be pretty stable offroad as well.

Wow lots of good info guys. Thanks

I saw the Blitz Can holders but I want to keep using the original style Wedco cans.

The Cold war holder is nicely made but completely blocks the rear window.

Twebba I really like the look of your K it is Very safari-expedition looking. This is the look im going after for my K. By the way who makes your roof rack?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Those two high mounted and exposed gas cans look kinda spooky to me. At least nobody will tailgate you.

I have several new holders, as shown here. $26 each
http://www.petrolcans.com/can5.htm

Now for my "truth in adverising". :D
I would not use these type of holders on any mount that you need to lift up and out over your head to get to them. They're nice holders that can be mounted in almost any direction. I have a smaller one in the Pink Cow for water. The rear mounted holder on PC will not work with a 710/12.

You're welcome to come by some time to see if they'll work for you.... or not

At least yours pivot out of the holders, the others require the can to be lifted entirely out the top..... now if the can slides out the side, that's a different matter. But I haven't seen one like that (yet) .

Sounds like a product idea to me Dave

Removing the cans in my setup usually requires standing on a step ladder or in the back door opening. When full this does take some concentration not to get gonged in the head maneuvering the 30lbs. +.

Thanks Bernhard,

I liked the looks of it too. I'm not sure who did the rack-job. It was done prior to my purchase. I could probably find out or give you the contact info of the gentleman I bought it from - just PM me...

Mark & David make some good points about having to lift those jerry cans up and out. Marks photos are very similar to the design on mine. I think I just need some new straps to give me a better 'warm & fuzzy' that the bottom's not going to slip out.

Good luck wth your 'expedition' mods!

The jerry can holder with the locking top bracket can be purchased from: www.garrettwade.com . I've got one of the mounted on the back of my Volvo TGB and one mounted in my Pinz. It fits perfectly behing the rear most troop seats. A well constructed product.

Later Pinzgauers and G-Wagen can holders

Bernhard,

There is a nice holder from SDP. The guy who designed it is named Ben Dover. Be prepared to fork out a few bucks for one.

You may be better off having a local fabrication shop make one for you.

I have photos and parts diagrams of the holder if you need them for ideas.

Are the holders the same ones currently used for the 716/18s and the G Wagons? If so, they are a nice holder ( same as on the Pick Cow), but again, you need to lift the can all the way up and out of the holder... I'd be interested to see pics too..... you know the saying around here...it didn't happen if you don't have pics.
