burned up a new optima battery

Post by critter »

My battery shifted and the positive terminal hit one of the door cables that was starting to lose its plastic coating. It fried my new optima battery. It also completely disintegrated the cable. Obviously, I need to be careful when closing the door panel as well as securing the batteries.

Has this happened to anyone else?

agm batteries

slighty off topic from your problem:

not that i need it, but i wonder if there is an agm battery sized to fit a pinz box. if you research agm batteries you find they are better than any other battery type, except their cranking (it's not bad, tho), and maybe their size. the trojan site is a good place see this.

i'm making room for 2 large 12volt agm's. they will be charged by 2 135 watt (or better) solar panels, as well the alternator.

Check this out. It would have prevented your problem.

Did you see any fireworks?

I haven't done that but I have been in a truck (404.0 Doka) that had the voltage regulator go bad and the optimas were getting over 35 volts! They were bubbling and boiling, it was a sight. Smelt really good too....

I missed the fireworks. I did, however, pay for them.

optima s

I've burned out two optimas now. It's always the Neg side that goes. I think its time I get a new voltage reg. But the optimas are just so darn easy to exchange hehe. I always wondered why batterys dont have there own cutoffs.

AGM! i think there may be sizes of agm's that fit that box. i'll never buy a gel cell for any use.

I think the Optima Group 31 is the largest that will fit the stock tray.
