Massive Pinz's EFI

Post by lindenengineering »

Gents
I got bombarded by private E mails last week about my support for this EFI system from "Massive".
So here's my three pennies worth on it.

Firstly I like the carburetors and their bare simplicity and I thought I had stated my peace on it!. I have to admit that I am getting sick of repairing them in all those areas that are failure or "ham fisted" repair commonplace. I like a challenge but in some cases it's like trying to braid (plait) sawdust. So some parts get thrown in the trash! I cannobolize what I can but some stuff lets face it gets beyond economical repair.

The EFI system (if its good) I am sure will resolve alot of driveability problems that are seem written about at length on this forum. For those of you "anti EFI" just face the fact that there will always be a sector of the ownership who will want the system over "carbies". You can't blame them for that; There will always be a sector in any specialist vehicle market for the upgrade. Indeed in some parts of the country (like Arizona) the top limits for CO & HC's are taxing the carburetor to comply so it may be necessary to embrace the EFI concept otherwise you risk having your Pinz turn into a lawn ornament or dust bowl addition if it won't comply with local E regs. If the authorities tighten up on E requirements in the future the EFI may be the only way to go, so like it or lump it you may have to embrace the EFI option even if you hate it.

As to current pricing, when I, or should I say Linden Engineering Inc shared the same roof as Cold War in Sedalia we brainstormed the costings for an EFI system and 5 YEARS ago the estimate was $3500 so the current price is a steal.

Alot of work was needed to develop the unit to be reliable and I could see that there would be alot of folk wanting to "clone' it and not pay royalties for the development work. So in short I abandoned it. Evan Hillman got the machined adaptors from me when he was last in my shop. In short I got sick of the crowd exemplified by the SOB who has parked his Mog outside my shop on the dirt and disturbs me and my staff looking for advice on how to fix the F---G thing for free.

The same goes for a diesel repower unit, yes I have done the feasability study but most would want to try to clone it and attempt to remove my creativity costs from the conversion. I prefer to deal with thew LR/Mog crowd who at least will open their wallets for such power conversions.
So what are we doing now? Simply put, Cummins diesel conversions to GMC's and Ford F250s where once sat a smoking or poor starting V8.

As a final note if you have a poor running Pinz remember the EFI conversion may not be the cure all; The engine does need to be in reasonable condition to accept the conversion and work well. It's called 'base lining the unit" before the conversion begins.
Take care
Dennis
