Flickering parking brake light

Post by texas pinzgauer »

Even with the parking brake off, the brake light on the dash seems to flicker intermittently. Any suggestions on how to prevent/address that?

Thanks!

That light also indicates if the brake fluid is low so that's a possibility.

I had my brake light come on solid while I was sliding backwards down a hill standing on the brake. Is the flicker affected by vibration or hitting the pedal?
How'd this get here?

Could also be water in the switch. After Russ went way deep his light started to do the same thing.

Water, Snow, any salty solution can act as a conductor in the switch. When I lived in Denver it was a common situation when snowing. Summer time it did not happen.

I know it was raining in Houston, did you drive it on the rain?

Carlos.

I had same, light would glow dim after using hand brake and fording water, switch contacts were the cause. It is easy to get at under the truck, clean it up and all should be well.

Where is the switch for the fluid level?

The brake fluid level sensor is part of the fluid reservoir cap(s). I have seen one model of the reservoir that didn't have the sensor though.

I checked and the hydralic fluid level is fine.

So what's the 2nd most likely cause for the flickering brake light?

Look at the park brake switch and contact tab. Aslo make sure the lever is not flopping up and down due to a missing washer.

That's what the problem was with mine.

Mine was just flashing on and off while driving. Sounds like a low fluid situation, since it only happens when using the brakes, and I know I need to readjust them (long pedal throw). Very timely thread! Thanks.
