brake lights out

Post by critter »

Ok, well, my tail lights are working but my brake lights are out of commission.
What is the best way to start my trouble shooting process?

The first obvious answer is to put a test light to the switch and verify power in and power out
Power comes from #12 breaker.
Switch is most common failure

if thats fine and you decide that it may be the actual bulbs BE VERY CAREFUL removing the taillight lens covers. mine are very brittle with age...the last time i took them off the seals had fused to the covers (and i mean fused like glue - took a dremel tool to get it all off of there).

if you got the spare cash, it might be worth upgrading the tail lights (then sell me your tail light covers, mine are cracking up!). on the other hand, a replacement bulb that costs $1.35 isnt exactly expensive!
