Oil contamination?

Here is my situation.

I experimented with synthetic engine oil (3 changes ago) with bad results. I think that it "cleaned" the inside of the engine, releasing sludge and deposits. Now, I have to change the oil every month (with conventional) because it gets very thin, very black, very quickly. It never used to do this before. It affects the way the truck runs. Every time I change the filter/oil, it immediately starts running perfectly again... until the oil goes black, then it runs poorly.

Is this going to eventually go away or do I have to change my oil every 200 miles for the rest of my life?

Time to smell your oil :? Check float levels, If the carbs are leaking down , the gas will thin out the oil. So smell the oil, as it thins with gas, it gets burned as blow by enriching intake air.
Let me know if I'm close to the mark.

Just a test of my magic at a distance

Thanks Jim!
I never thought that it might be gas getting into the oil. Where do I look in the carb area for leakage? The bases? I have a float level tool so I guess I'll learn how to use it today.
If it is gas leaking into oil, how do I fix it?

Look for loose or seeping spacer gasket/leaking shot off solonoid/high float level/warped mating surface/ loose needle and seat(check with 12mm wrench).............

Don't forget the fuel pump... when they go bad, they can leak, or pump gas into the block.
