Hello to all,

unfortunately my 712 decided to spit out sparkplug of cylinder 1, with tread and all. Plug of cylinder 4 was also found loose, which must have been the reason for cylinder 1 failing that way. Could be cylinder 4 has thread damage as well. Seems I will need a new headgasket, and intake and exhaust seals. Usually in Guatemala they install inserts to repair the plug thread, whihc should save me from buying a new cylinder head. Has anybody had any experience with this?

We managed to keep the plug inserted with a piece of a wood, which allowed me to run another 180 km to get home.

No head gasket used on Pinz. TimeSerts are a acceptable repair, just make sure not to trim it too short or the plug threads will protrude and use locktite on the insert as well.
To do without removing the head, use grease to hold the chips from the drilling and tapping, then blow compressed air into the cylinder to remove any stray leavings.

Hi Ji, now that is valuable advice, specially if I do not have to remove the head. Can you do it with the motor installed? Do you have a kit or reference number for the TimeSerts of the Pinz?

IF I had to remove the head, what parts would I need?

While it is dificult, it can be done in place with the right tools and previous mensioned tips.
If you choose to remove the heads you will need (for each head) 5 pushrod tube seals, one oil return o-ring, 2 intake gaskets, 2 exhaust gaskets, 1 valve cover gasket, 2 carb base gaskets, Permatex aviation sealant(for cylinder bases if they come loose and valve cover gaskets)
Don't forget some spray brake cleaner :idea:

Great, thanks a lot! Any advice on the kit number of the TimeSerts for the Pinzgauer? As I plan to buy them in the States to have them shipped down to Guatemala this would be very helpful.
