Should i kick myself? I was following the directions in the manual, but some posts here mention to not touch the mixture screws. While playing with the carbs, i twisted the mixture adjustment screws in snug, then backed out the same number of turns it took to twist them in. basically 1.5 full rotations.
Would i have caused damage to the carbs doing this?

If your definition of snug is just when it stops, then your golden. Sometimes over the years the taper of the screw will get a step in it making for a less accurate adjustment.

If it ain't broke, why would you ever fix it?? I think a good kicking is in order!! Form a line to the right!!!
Did that help??

sounds like it was very "broke", tho. yes?
isn't the balancer (snail shaped vacuum tool) an essential tool?
