Don't know anything about it but interesting they blocked off the exhaust returns on the intake manifold.
Is that common in Australian versions of the Pathfinder's?

Is the return for heating the intake manifold or for EGR? Either way it's not wanted in most of Oz.

For heating the intake manifold - agree it is not needed/wanted but just not sure if this was a one off or if they were made like this for Australian market?

At current exchange rate this is $5,300 USD.

Just bought some Ausie outback gear and was pleasantly
surprised at the actual USD charge against my account.

Hey, it's a Hafi, should fit nicely in a small box

That is just a local bodge.

I blanked off my carby heat pipes as I thought the carb was getting too hot in summer but was advised to return it back to original which it is now due to possible issues in winter. The heating pipes really need a temp controlled flap to open and close as needed.

This Pathfinder owned by Rick Karossi is also for sale here at the moment

We only ended up with the "Pathfinders" in Oz because at the time Haflinger production was mooted to close, Barry Jones (MD of Haflinger Sales and Service in Springvale, Australia) managed to get a shipment bound for the US "redirected" to Australia........Sorry guys :D

Blocking of the intake manifold heater tubes was a common modification in Aus, in the 70's.
1/. We really didn't need this feature given our temperatures...... Even in snow conditions I've never had icing problems.
2/. Slight improvement in performance (colder air is more dense)........ following Haffy Club members advice at the time, it was one of the first mods I did to my Haflinger when I got it in 1976.
3/. The manifold pipes appeared to be one of the first exhaust sections that rust through, so owners tended to block them off to prevent exhaust leaks.

Just for interest sake I should add that my first Haflinger was my only transport for nearly 4 years in the early 70's and included a few quite long trips and a 3000km interstate run, and in all that time apart from a crank problem (my own fault) the motor never let me down once...... it's a fantastic little powersource!

The final 100 or so Pathfinders went to Australia because the US Govt banned road use importation of the Haflinger due to "chicken tax" and "safety issues." A few stayed in Europe.. The rest went down under.

The final 100 or so Pathfinders went to Australia because.......
Hmmm, I don't know where the other 60 went because we only got 40 :D :D

I had a figure in my head that around 30+ or so were shipped to Australia but it's been bugging me as to whether this was right or wrong so I rang Tony H earlier today.
Tony was chief engineer at Haflinger Sales and Service back in the days when they were assembled here in Springvale, Victoria, and he says he and his crew converted 38 Pathfinders to RHD.......two were left as LHD, although he can't recall why.
Now I can sleep soundly tonight!  :D

I'II always remember walking in Haflinger Sales and Service in late 70's and on top of the office located in the factory was a CKD pack containing an unassembled Pathfinder.
I know it was assembled years later by someone that brought it and even later I went to an auction up the country where it sold for a small fortune.

I wonder if there are any "forgotten" CKD packs containing unassembled Haffy's sitting in some dark and dusty corner of an old warehouse somewhere in the world?? 8)

I think I have one but it is in my shed vs a crate :)
My feeble attempt at a restoration should be done in 2025 or so
