FOR SALE: 1989 PUCH 300GD

Post by pcolette »

Too many vehicles and too little time to enjoy them all, so it's time to sell this one.
Not a Pinz, Haflinger or Volvo but....

This is a very good condition Steyr Puch 300GD 2 door, short wheelbase, 4WD. Commonly referred to as a G-Wagen and built in Austria near the Pinzgauer plant in collaboration with Mercedes. All the parts are available from Mercedes dealers and through many other specialty dealers such as Eurotruck Importers, Expedition Imports and Swiss Army Vehicles.

This particular model is a 2 door with no rear seat but it does have the factory cargo divider panel (not shown) behind the front seats. It also has the factory installed beefier rear springs for added cargo capacity. It was originally sold to a customer in Switzerland and was repainted before coming to the US last year.

It drives very nicely and handles well. However, it is a bit on the slow side as is typical for this Mercedes engine. Lots of torque but not much acceleration. It will cruise at highway speeds and seems to get decent mileage.

Titled and registered in Wisconsin as a Sport Utility. Ready to be picked up and driven home.

Asking $ 23,900.00

Contact me with any questions, comments, etc. via pm. A portion of the sale proceeds will be donated to the forum.

Thanks for looking!

From CA.GOV -- Smog Information

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.

What am I missing? Tekada Airbags maybe ???

Puch 300GD Curb weight + payload = total weight 1885 + 615 = 2500 kg about 5511 pounds GVWR  so about 11,500 pounds light to meet that 14,000 lbs diesel exemption.

That is for CARB certified vehicles and not gray market vehicles.
Basically, gray market diesel vehicles are the same as gas in Cal.

Scott has a good write up on the new interpetations of the Cal laws, mostly on how they apply to gas Pinzes.. If you read further he goes into diesel MOG and mentions my old 716.

Hmm, OK Dave I'll read Scott's post too.

The ca.gov statement does stipulate "or" not "and" condition
w.r.t Diesel for 1997 or older, or curb weight, which implies
one condition or the other. I think your 718 certainly falls in
the newer category, being built in this century :D

Very nice truck! Is it typical of the Puchs to not have the front and rear lockers as compared to the MB G-Wagens?

Thanks!
Both the Puchs and the MB g-wagons had the differential locks as an option, either just rear or both front and rear. I also have noticed that many of the MB branded ones do have the locking differential option. I don't really know why this is. I drove this in the snow last winter and the 4WD was very good and I never ran into any situations where I wished I'd had the lockers. YMMV

A Supacat would be great but no, something a bit more road friendly.
My wife thinks I already have a few holes in my head and she's probably right. :)
