Hello All!

I'm looking for a set of Antennas and Bases for my 710K.
I have the standard body brackets. I'd like to mount the standard antennas and bases.
They would only be cosmetic, so non-functional ones are ok....almost preferable since I'm not wiring them in anyway.
Obviously I'd pay shipping.

That would be the MX-6707/VRC base. The whips are 2-sections and center feed.
The bases can be found at surplus and eBay, but becoming more scarce, especially the Whips.

Rather than simply a cosmetic look, this base and antenna can be "tuned" to operate well on CB.

The next generation was for the SINCGARS radio system, AS-3900 base. These are not tunable, they were
designed for frequency hopping and could be really crappy at the CB band thus more of a looker.

I have one off my 710M. I think it is the same. Honestly not sure what it is worth...

I have a couple cylindrical pieces with an attached bracket and lined with some sort of insulation that came with my 710K. I think these went inside the side antenna mounts. If they are useful to you, make an offer.

That looks awesome! What antenna elements did you put on the bases and where did you get them? Are you using them or just restoring to original appearance? I am very impressed with the whole vehicle. Where are you located?

Pretty reasonable prices. Its the standard 2-part antennas that go with these bases.
I don't have them connected- I'm just using them for the aesthetics.
I'm located in Connecticut in the US.

I believe those antennae covered the 30-76MHZ HF. I wonder if anybody has tried using a civilian HF rig such as a Yaesu 857 or 450d with them. Or if one thinks it would be worth the effort to try to get them to work.

What's nice about this antenna is a tuner built into the base.

You can select 10 bands with a manual switch at the base or
remotely with a proper pulse to drive the built in stepper motor.

But! The only Bands of interest for us Civilians are 11M, 10M,
and possibly the 6M band. To operate on these bands with
reasonable SWR would require some tweaking and tuning. The
easiest would be the 11M (aka CB) as that's a variable capacitor
one can simply adjust. The other bands would require a bit more
surgery and component changes.

The other nice property of this Whip is that it is actually a Vertical
dipole. That is, the elements are driven in the center, not the
bottom, this is really nice for systems with poor Ground planes,
such as high clearance Vehicles

This is a pretty darn good antenna for CB. I have not heard of any
HAM's reporting on good performance on the HF bands, which again
would only be 10M or 6M.

I am just thinking about getting into HF as you can tell by my question suggesting inexperience. I am surprised that it only offers the three civilian bands. If I do HF out of the Pinz I guess I will be parked most of the time and could just put up a separate vertical antenna or wire. Or, I might have to get one of those tall AT-1011. I see two of them in an online auction site.

hf covers 160M (1.8MhZ) up through 6M (54MhZ), after that your walking into VHF territory.

The Military radio systems post WWII and pre Desert Storm where typically 30Mhz-88Mhz.
Thus little overlap with the hf HAM bands, actually above CB and just a scoot above the 10M band.

Present day Military radio systems are pretty broad-band, e.g. 30MhZ to 512MhZ (nad higher), the
SF3512/VRC from Shakespeare being a good example. These antennas would be OK for VHF and UHF
bands but would be inferior a dedicated antenna for the HAM bands e.g one from Comet or Diamond,
but the Mil ones are damn rugged and look nice

For hf there are a number of commercial antennas out there, and several from HAM guys that build
and market their own. They tend to be pretty long whips with a base loaded coil of some kind. I went
a different route. I have a Shakespeare 4.5BHC mounded base on my rig with the AT-1011 antenna
system. This is a sectioned Whip antenna, each section is 4', and capable of 32' for operation at the
lowest band at 1.8MhZ. It is cumbersome to say the least. I typically use it for 20M and 40M and also
built a custom loading coil so that I only need to use up to 4 sections or 16'. Works pretty good. I can
even do email (short messages) on the trail using the WINMOR system.

Yes, I have read your post about your antennae. Do you have a photo of your AT-1011 in driving mode? I see pic with it upright in that older thread. It looks long to just pull back over the Pinz. And, I would be interested in your loading coil and the radio/ antenna tuner you use. Perhaps this is reaching outside this thread. Please PM if more appropriate.

Well pretty simple answer here.. I run with only two sections installed
with the loading coil between the two. That folds back well as it's 8'.
Then when stationary I add either one more section or 2 depending upon
what band I will operate on, release and let it all fly up vertical up to
16'.

I am using a ICOM 7200 with a LDG AT-200 Pro tuner. Tehre are MANY
options. I picked the 7200 as it supports Digital modes and is built for
rugged applications.

The custom built loading coil was built out of one 4' section that I sacrificed,
it was a huge PITA to build. I'll have to dig up a PIX of that.
