Had some filming work to do in Vegas and made a side trip along the way. I think I found a good location for a future Real 4x4 Treffen.

Post a gps coordinate and a date for the Treffen! Looks like fun.

Cool, was this the route we were planing earlier this year?
No mud, no washouts, ready to go anytime. How long did this
take end to end?

I think it would be a good place overall because you can keep moving along over a weekend instead of having just one camping spot you return to, which can get boring in my opinion. Most of the trail is pretty easy, maybe too easy, but you can't have everything. A side trip or two might be fun, like for dinner one night in a place like Boulder City, near the end, which I think has a small brewery restaurant. Anyway, it's something I've been thinking about for years. I used to help out with the big LRover rally back east when I had my SIII. I appreciate the Mogfest event but it's kind of trailer/RV-centric and that set of trails have become a little repetitive for me.

Ron, I did just part of that route to get a feel for the area. I skipped several parts due to time and not having another 4x4 with me. One thing I learned is that you really need a detailed map or GPS with detailed topo info which I was lucky enough to have. The actual trail is very hard to keep on. I lost it a few times even with that unit. There are so many cross-trails and little to no markers along the way. I could also see where rain would cause some very tough conditions in spots.

This would be a fun detour on a treffen run: The lava tube. I waited for a beam of light to shoot through to take a pic. (Small pic is the entry point)

I ran the Mojave Road from the Avi Casino near Laughlin to Afton Canyon in my Pinzgauer with a group a few years ago. I've been wanting to go again ever since. You can easily do it 3 days with some time to stop for site seeing or short side trips. Four days would be better if you want to get in more sites and make longer side trips.

It looks like you were going mostly North to South through the Mojave Preserve. It's a great place for a rolling run no matter which direction you choose.

Vince, Bruce -- whenever! I'm game.

What's unusual this year is Mojave Road is pretty dry.

You can keep tabs on places of interest at Weather Underground, which has all the weather

The SWPA ran the Mojave trail a few years ago from laughlin to Barstow, CA. was a fun trip. We took 4 days to complete the trail and see lots of the sites along the way. No real trail difficulty but the sites were plentiful and the history of the trail made for a great trip. hard part was the long drive back from Barstow to Phoenix after being on the trail.
