We just completed a 2 week high adventure trip to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and Boulder Mountain. We based in Escalante Utah with our group staying at the Cowboy Country Inn and Canyons of Escalante RV park. I've done a lot of beautiful country in Utah and this was no exception. Every day was a different kind of scenery and the scenery varied along every trip. All were day trips from Escalante. Most were on graded roads with some bumps and washboards, some were more remote with a few obstacles, but stock 4wd vehicles made it through. Highly recommended trip. Here's what we did (we duplicated some trips since some of the group came in only for the 2nd week):
Day 1: Cottonwood Canyon-Hwy 89-Johnson Canyon-Skutempah Road.
Day 2: Kodachrome Basin State park
Day 3: Burr Trail-Wolverine Loop-Cutoff Road
Day 4: Hole-In-The-Rock Road to Peek-A-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyons - Left Hand Collet Road - Alvey Wash Road - Smokey Mountain Road
Day 5: Smokey Mountain Road - Smokey Hollow Road
Day 6: Rest Day, short trip on Smokey Mountain Road to Pictographs, and to Old Escalante Road to Pictographs
Day 7: Hells Backbone Road - Side trips
Day 8: Burr Trail - Hwy 12 - Pleasant Creek - Capital Reef State Park
Day 9: Hole-In-The-Rock Road to Hole-In-The-Rock
Day 10: Smokey Mountain Road - Alvey Wash Road - Left Hand Collet Road - Cedar Wash Road
Day 11: Anasazi State Park, Boulder UT
Day 12: Smokey Mountain Road - Alvey Wash Road - Death Ridge Road - Horse Mountain Road - 4 Mile Bench Road - Cottonwood Canyon Road
Day 13: Main Canyon Road to near Widtsoe.
