Northwest MogFest 2021: The Oregon Trail 2.0

Post by Jim Molloy »

Hello to all!
When the State of Oregon mandated that outdoor gathering be kept under 250 attendees, we knew we had to officially cancel Northwest MogFest 2020. Annual attendance varies from 350-700 individuals. In place of the usual event, we decided to host a smaller Waldersee Farmily ReUNIon the same weekend. Total attendence was ~125 or so. Still had seven Volvo TGBs, seven Haflingers, a 6x6 Pinzgauer, several VW Syncros and Gwagens. Very low key and relaxing...but...

We are SO ready for 2021!!! The dates for next year's Northwest MogFest are August 19th-22nd, 2011. The theme will be: The Oregon Train 2.0. With all we have learned thus far about the nature of the SARS-CoV-2 virus/COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to learn as weeks and months pass, I cannot imagine we will be dealing with social restrictions then to the same degree we are currently. As the dust settles and the fear abates, we will all be able to breath a healthy, long overdue and well deserved sigh of relief. We will certainly be doing so next summer at NWMF2021.

Take care...one and all!

Hello to all,
Well...it looks like we made it. Just a bit over two months before the start of Northwest MogFest 2021. Our website is in the process of its annual update and the RSVP page should be going live very soon. We are anticipating large number so Unimogs, Pinzgauers, Haflingers, Volvo TGBs, Land Rovers, VW Syncros, MB 4x4 vans and large trucks to name but a few. After last year's "MogFest Lite" Waldersee Farmily Reunion, we have decided to make some changes from the pattern we used for 2000-2019.

No in-house food service run by Boy Scout leaders. There may be some food/coffee/lemonade vendors but recommendation will be to plan for dining on your own. There is the possibility that our friends who host the Descend On Bend/Descend On Lost Sierra events will be serving at least one meal. They are FANTASTIC cooks!

Pack in/Pack out. We are not going to be collecting cans and bottle for recycling nor will we be hauling mountains of trash. We will continue to have ample toilet and shower facilities.

Fire season will be in full effect so travel into remote OHV areas may or may not be possible. I am exploring the possibility of a large group drive via back roads to a significant abandoned historical military site on National Forest lands. Again, a lot will depend on access.

on the farm itself, we will offer the standard driving, socializing, driving, swimming and driving along with the axe throwing and back hoe competitions. Yoga will be offered daily. We are also considering a kid's electric/pedal car parade, RC car parade and drone races. And who knows...there may be some professional musicians gracing us with their talents.

In short, it should be a very fun time.

Look for details on the website or the Facebook "NWMF" page.

Take care.

"ONE MONTH OUT" update. The river and fields are looking great. Hazelnut trees are thriving and the nurse crop has been harvested/baled. The youngest tree on the east end of the large field have a ways to go but we trust Marvin Bernards and his crew. Marvin's family and ours have been enjoying the river and there have been a few vehicular traverses of The Pit already.

As a reminder, we are still going with the "Pack in/Pack out" principle as it pertains to trash/recyclables/dog turds. There is no firm plan for meal service either Friday or Saturday night so be prepared to survive on your own or share your bounty with your neighbors. Remember...the theme is Oregon Trail 2.0. And speaking of the Oregon Trail, when you look at each of the Hazelnut trees on our farm, please recall that each of those trees represents 3-4 people who started the journey westward and did not survive it.

No open fires/camp fires will be allowed as is is VERY dry already. No open vehicle exhausts. (We do reserve the right to install "a banana in your tailpipe" spark arrestor should we feel the need is there.) I recently overheard Emilie Knutson Molloy speaking with Bernadette Saysette so I assume T-shirts are in the works. I am more dedicated that even to hold at least one and possibly two kids' pedal/electric/petroleum-powered vehicle parade.

For those interested in coming to Waldersee Farm for NWMF 2021, please use the new dedicated email: nwmf2021rsvp@gmail.com and simply let us know the number of humans/humanoids in your group, the number and type of vehicle(s) and when you plan to arrive. It helps us plan ahead a bit. My hope is to provide updates at least weekly from this point on.

Thank you...one and all.
Jim
