This is not Calico Mogfest. Because of a few comments made at Calico, and several other reasons, Alan has passed on co-ordinating another Mogfest.
This Mogfest has been proposed by Zack to be at Truckhaven . From my understanding, this is primitive camping, or you rent a motel room in town.

The night trail run is without lights, hence why the full moon date.

midnight trailruns..

Post by acebee »

well..can't wait for night trail runs without any lights..

[ i hope even flashlights (incl white LEDs) are banned on the trail ! ;-) ]

with my pinz daily driving ( ~9k km since Oct 6th) ..i am almost sad that that the venue is 'just-across-the-hill-before-the-lake' from here..

nothing like a.. few hundred miles of re-assuring throaty 'roar-hum' right under the right elbow..to make me feel rejuvenated/right@home!

OK, the 2010 Mogfest website is up.
http://www.mogfest.com/

Things are still a little sketchy. I'll post updates as I learn more.

Dave, obviously I won't be there because of the distance involved. But, I can't help but be curious whether ya'll have a Plan B (for the no lights deal) in case of an overcast sky? I'm just curious.

Well Andy. The night run is someone elses idea. In my younger days, I use to snake collect at night to pay for my college. The vehicle lights were use to identify animals by the shadow they'd cast.... also, dropoffs and washouts would cast a black void that if you didn't read the shadows right, you'd end up in the bottom of one. I'm too old to go frolic through the desert at night without lights!

Also, my involvement with Mogfest is to relay info along...... now if you hear of a Cal SupacatFest, you might have an idea of who's putting that on.

I know what you mean. In my younger days in the Border Patrol we would sklylight cars passing on the highway and if there were too many heads in them we would chase after them without headlights at up to and over 100mph. We had way to many bail-outs so we thought that was a smart thing to do to reduce them.

Once we caught up to the vehicle, we would hit the headlights, the reds and blues, and the siren all at once. It did reduce the number of bailouts significantly, but I no longer view that activity as too smart.

Don't think I'd risk life and limb these days let alone one of my Pinzgauers w/o lights.

truck haven Mogfest.

Post by Andre »

The off roading in truck haven is great and primitive camping can be just as refreshing when done right. I will show up early with camo neting and support poles to make mog central with if needed.
Feel free to pass on the info to the powers that be. I will make the trip with family in tow.

Andre,

You'll have to bring some more of that marinaded beef to slice off and cook on skewers over the campfire. That was one of the best and simplest camping meals I ever had. Great for primitive camping.

Just remember to cancel the sand storm this time :D
