This time to the historic Carey Dome fire lookout tower. The deep canyon in the background of the view from the top of the tower is the Salmon River. You can probably see Oregon, Washington and maybe even Montana from here.

The views are magnificent but those trees in the foreground look like they're dead. Is that fire damage?

Wayne, that almost looks like the stuff I see here in CO as beetle kill trees.

That area was part of a MASSIVE forest fire 2 summers ago. The bombers and firefighters were able to protect the structure, but about 200' away everything is burned for miles. The beetle kill is coming this way, but so far this area hasn't been hit too hard.
