Have any of you So Cal guys ever been to this event?

http://www.tds4x4.com/

I may have an opportunity to attend and was wondering if the non-Jeep folks out there (AKA y'all) had any opinions about it.

I went to that event years ago. Lots of jeeps but your pinz will be able to keep up... ;-) I had fun but had to drive off a ways to get some quiet at night to sleep. Those people party all night. Standard off road people, lots of beer, campfire and such in the PM. You know how cold it can get in the desert in the evening.

Also went to superstition event. Check their rules for trail rides. Not too complicated if your pinz is in good shape. I passed no problem and mine was new to me. http://www.sd4wheel.com/node/4 (safety check) My front and rear internal supports served as a roll bar as I had a soft top.

edit: If you watch the little video you will notice that not a lot of people really pay much attention to the seat belt requirement or the advice to use one.

Went to TDS a few years back with my Pinz; was like being a rock star. On Sunday they held what was called the "Rough Run" and I had to get a special dispensation to take the 710 on the run since it didn't have 35" tires.

Be prepared for huge crowds and noise all night long. It was fun, but I wouldn't recommend doing it with small kids like I did.

Michael,

That is interesting since I have not seen a jeep with 14 inch clearance that could compare with or without 35 inch tyres.

Thanks for all of the great comments and observations. If I attend, I won't be bringing my Pinz. The comments about the late night festivities are very helpful as that is NOT something I'm looking for!

I've also thought about attending the Overland Expo...maybe.

I echo the comments on TdS. It was a lot of fun but it was noisy at night. I had to sleep using ear plugs. I also spent A LOT of time talking to people about the Pinzgauer.

I'm planning on attending the Overland Expo. I don't know if I'll be taking the Pinzgauer or the Tacoma I'm building up for off road camping. I'm still waiting for the FlipPac camper I ordered in October.

Exactly. It took the Pres of TDS at the time to give us the OK to go. Pretty funny actually, we spent about a half hour behind a bunch of Jeeps getting stuck up a large hill climb, and we crawled up the hill climb with 8 people onboard with no issue.

On the "Rough Run" the jeep guys didn’t have much interest in the pinz until, we sailed smoothly up the little hill climb they were having so much trouble with. Then the crowd that was watching mobbed the pinz was with cheers and questions.
Good driving Michael.

I attended when I first got my Pinzgauer and left there a better driver off road. just took some jeep chasing to get a grip on the pinz abilities.
