Re: 2013 Haflingertreffen Nordamerika Event
In an attempt to have the Hafi in tip top shape I dropped the motor to replace the trans shaft seal and the bronze bushing. Seems the replacement seal was not the correct part, so I am waiting for the new one from Austria to show up. wish I would not have pulled it appart now...
I am still heading to Levenworth for the weekend, camping out on icecicle creek in the tow rig, a 13 Tundra.
I could drive the Pinzgauer out but the wife is not a big fan of it on long freeway trips.
Ill still stop by and say hi but will be Hafi-less.
Sorry guys if it was one weekend later I am sure I would be there with my baby...

Re: 2013 Haflingertreffen Nordamerika Event
Since Saturday looks like the better weather day. I am switching the longer trail ride to that day.
Revised plan:
Thursday: Many folks I have talked to are arriving at Der Ritterhof Motor Inn Afternoon through evening.
Friday: Less structured Trail Ride followed by option for Leavenworth town experience with accordions. Dinner can be on your own or impromptu group. There is an abundance of restaurants within walking distance of Inn.
Saturday: Trail Ride caravan departing Inn at 9:30am will parade through town and head out to the woods. Pack a lunch and snacks. I am planning on us having our sack lunch at the Sugarloaf Lookout tower. (See if you want a preview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIMCpYfPnSs). I expect to be back at the Inn around 4-5pm. Host dinner at Inn outdoor grill. I will be cooking Bratwurst.
Sunday: Group breakfast at Krystal's next to Inn.

Re: 2013 Haflingertreffen Nordamerika Event
Just got back, I stayed in the shadows due to the lack of my truck and the wife getting violently sick Friday night. Anyway I was glad to meet a few fellow hafi owners and did take a few photos from the sugarloaf trail ride. Next year I will make sure any "tune ups" happen way in advance so I am sure to be there in my truck.

Re: 2013 Haflingertreffen Nordamerika Event
Thank you to all that were able to attend the Haflinger Treffen in Leavenworth, WA.
For this Treffen we had 20 people attend, 8 Haflinger’s, and 1 Ural.
Thursday
I had a great time looking at other Haflinger’s, especially the maintenance and restoration that the other owners had completed since our last meeting at NWMF. We followed it up with Bavarian food from a local restaurant.
Friday
Loop trail ride via Eagle Creek Drainage. Shortly after starting one of the vehicles had an issue and returned to Der Ritterhof with Ural as escort for repairs. This trail had some muddy and rutted sections followed by some downed trees that the Haflinger’s were just able to squeeze through. On the loop was the small town of Peshastin where we stopped to make the wife’s happy at their first winery. We then stopped at a second winery to make the wife’s even happier. We returned to Leavenworth and had Bavarian food from a local restaurant.
After lunch, the Haflinger with an issue was resolved and an additional Haflinger arrived so we ventured on our second trail ride to Boundary Butte. As we climbed nearly 2000’ above Leavenworth we enjoyed the views of the Icicle Creek Canyon, a private narrow gauge railroad built for local guy, and many scenic vistas. The trail was rough up to the Butte and some were puckered but we all made it to the radio tower on top. We returned to town and the group went out to dinner at local favorite the Munchen Haus.
Saturday
Loop trail ride featuring Chumstick Mountain and Sugarloaf Peak Lookout. Overnight the group had expanded to 8 Haflinger’s. All 8 and the Ural set out for 7 hours of trail riding. We rose 4639’ up to our lunch location of the summit of Chumstick Mountain which sits at 5810 ft. The weather was spectacular and the views even better. Along the way we passed some awesomely steep designated single track routes to the summit not for the light hearted. We also saw a 5-ton with its Rockwell axle and driver front suspension severely damaged. After lunch we traveled the ridge line 8 miles to the historic Sugarloaf Peak Lookout. The lookout was saved from a fire in 1994 but the surrounding forest still showed scars. From the lookout you could see Lake Wenatchee and Fish Lake. After enjoying the views we returned back to the Der Ritterhof where I utilized the Inn’s barbeque and cooked up dinner for the group. After dinner many of the group traveled to a local Bier Haus and taught some Boeing interns from Georgia the meaning of Prost!
Sunday
The group had breakfast at Kristal’s Restaurant. loaded up, said our goodbye’s until NWMF and headed home.
It was a great time. I hope to see everyone and the folks that were unable to make it at NWMF.
