G-wagen deep into Utah, Canyonlands, Moab, Toroweap.

Post by VinceAtReal4x4s »

After getting the G all sorted out, I finally got a real start out of Vegas in the 12th. I went straight to Az to a rarely visited part of the Grand Canyon via a 50 mile off-road/dirt road to Toroweap which is an overlook with a 3000ft. drop straight down. From there I went up to Ut. toward Needles and Valley of the Gods. I'm quickly posting a few pics from a coffee shop in Moab UT, and will post more info later.

Holy crap - my hands started sweating just looking at the 3rd picture - amazing but no way I could ever get that close to the edge!

2nd picture is very cool - I like the formation that is reflected in the passenger side window!!

It is so weird how just looking at a picture can make you feel strange... then again that happens all the time when looking at.. um, er.. nevermind.

It's interesting how the rock fractures make it look like that section your standing on could drop off at any moment.

I'd like to take a couple of years to explore Utah, so many places to see. Some of the best geological formations this country has to offer that's for sure.

Thanks for the comments. I was actually forced to use a horribly cheap point-and-shoot camera (of hers) so many shots I have are messed up in some way, and some are not useable at all.

Quick update. The G on the White Rim road in two different spots. That drop off is much deeper than it looks! A dinosaur footprint from about 150 million years ago (can that be right?!), unmarked other than the rocks around it.

Reserve a camping spot on it months in advance and take your Pinz.

Beautiful photos, keep 'em coming. How is camping in the G working out for you?

Camping in the G isn't as good as it was in the Pinz or Volvo, but I got it working.

Some photos from the White Rim road again, as well as inside Needles.

Don't look at this pic on an empty stomach! And yes, it was probably kinda stupid to do.

Beautiful country and some great photos, thanks. ...also included some pics of that great camping staple PB & J with Pringles.

I like the rear door shovel mount on the back door. Shouldn't it have the roll of mountain money zip tied to it though?

Yeah the roll should have been! The G is working out well but I miss the 303/Pinz room a lot.

A 7 mile hike in the Bridges area paid off with this ruins site which was left alone about 700 years ago. It's amazing how this stuff stays intact in this region. Back east, I'm used to all the physical history just rotting away. This stuff is 100's of years older than Jamestown but there is barely a microscopic trace of anything left of that. Of course it was mostly wood but still, this has wood in it too and its still very much there. The hike up to this stuff is really tricky and dangerous and not advisable for a family outing.

I forgot about the wild big-horn sheep seen about 50 miles from the closest paved road.
