Road tires for stock rims?

Post by audiocontr »

I've acquire a plethora of off road and winter tires for my haffie. I have 6 extra stock rims that still have the Moloyas. I was considering a set of tires for the road, at as low of a cost as possible. What do you think of basic trailer tires like: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Carlisle-Rad ... #read-more

100% road driving.

Those will work fine for pure road use. They won't work very well off road, but you will still be able to do farm tracks without any issues! Just don't be surprised if you don't go as fast as with other tyres as those are 145 / 70 / 12 so side wall is only 70 % of the tyre width. The original 145 tyre would have been 145 / 80 /12.

Better than the trailer tyres as they are "All weather" tyres and they are actually designed for a powered vehicle.

You Haf will still go a bit slower (top speed) on these compared to the Mayolas as those are probably 165 / 80 / 12 although they did make Semprites in a 145 / 80 / 12. If you want to check some figures you could go to https://www.carbibles.com/tire-size-calculator/ and put the different numbers in.
You should find that the Mayolas have about 3 % more circumference and therefore travel that little bit further for every revolution!
