BMW bike engine

Post by donk »

sometime ago, when I was looking to rebuild my haffy, someone told me that a BMW engine mated onto the haffy gearbox. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so do you know which model and engine it is?

Thanks

Isetta had the same engine (643cc) but don't know what years fit.

There was a guy in NSW who fitted a BMW motorbike engine to a Haffy a couple of decades ago now.
The simplicity of the fit and installation was pretty good but the problem was the resultant vehicle ground clearance.
Early BMW motors were very similar to Haffy motors in basic design, but on those motors the camshaft was below the crankshaft unlike a Haffy motor where it is above, hence the sump hung a fair bit lower than the transaxle/differentials.
