A link to my Haflinger restoration

Post by pinzinator »

Jim LaGuardia rebuilt the engine, and it runs like a Swiss watch. I did all of this work last year.
I installed GM style fuse blocks and completely rewired the Haflinger, with the exception of the 10 wire harness that runs from front to rear. The seats were done locally. The steering wheel is a new Pinzgauer wheel, it fits perfectly and is about 1.5 inches bigger in diameter.
Electric fuel pump and Pertronix, too.

Rob,
Hard cab/polycab Haflingers are far more rare than the soft top versions. Average price for a Haflinger is going to be as much as $2-4K higher than the typical Japanese Kei truck. The Japanese minitrucks certainly have more creature comforts and a higher road speed. The engine displacement and load carrying capacities are similar. Ground clearance of the Haflingers is greater. While Haflingers are road legal in all fifty US states, there are but a few states that allow the Japanese trucks imported when less than 25 years old to be legally licensed for use on the road. Parts for Haflingers tend to be on the expensive side. Your best bet is to find a Haflinger owner close to home and take a test drive. Where are you located?

Jim thanks for the message.. I live in Northeastern Pa. Pocono area. lots of rocks my little subaru sambar runs good but its very hard to raise it so the clearence isnt as good. Ill tell you though its a tank thru mud and snow ill attach a few pics of it below. i since got the matching front tires on. i have to get a steel bumper put on for my winch i have. I wanted to make it look like a pinzgauer and add the back cargo top. still looking for someone to make it..lol parts are cheap and it gets 40 mpg. but this is made for the woods since pa. doesnt allow it to be driven on the roads like Jim said..

Rob,
You have a very nice looking truck. If you are content with it remaining an off-road vehicle only, you might as well stick with what you have. By comparison, the most complete Polycab for sale on eBay is this one.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

thanks Jim yeah I really wanted a pinzgauer but the trails around here are too tight (quad trails) plus the subaru was $4000 and I dont see myself buying a pinz for that amount of money. I would love to make a cargo top for the back like the one you just linked. and yes its only for the woods and transporting fire wood for me. would love to make the front look like a pinz or a haflinger though.. my neighbor fabs steel so when he puts a bumper one i might see if he can fab something up in the front... keep you guys updated.. rob
