What have I bought ? Building a Haflinger ex Royal Navy
Hi all Phil here first post , I'm on restoring/building a Haflinger , not much left of the body so having to make it
this is what I've picked up
remains of the doors
not much remains of the fuel tank
I think we put more rust in the bin than whats left of the body

Ok well I will start by saying WOW nice find!!
But I will quickly follow with WOW what happened to that poor little guy
Looks like you have some solid bits to start working from - a full set of doors is always a very nice find.
There are places to buy parts or full body tubs as you may well know.
Let us know your plans and keep us posted with photos
Cheers and I see you have another Hafi in the background!

Wow nice find, please blog the rebuild of that little guy. I have already started amassing spare parts for mine, if you need something post to the list and someone may be able to help you out.
My wife of 25 years saw the pictures and praised you for buying it. Her thought pattern is that's one less project out their for her crazy husband.

Re: What have I bought ? Building a Haflinger ex Royal Navy
Hi all and a happy new year I find these little vehicles ( and parts for these ) quite expensive just like other vehicles made by the steyr puch factory , so I intend in making most of the body
The other haflinger in one of the pictures belongs to a gentleman that I bought my haflinger from , he helps run a haflinger club ,
My other half does'nt think I'd be able to make anything of it and that I have too take plenty of pics as I go along , I did manage too hide it from her for a while but then she wanted too put something in the garage , I said you can't as there's a horse in there
over the last couple of weeks after work I've striped and rebuilt the front upper body ,
folded a new pannel to let in
then pulled the windscreen out to find the frame was beyond repair so made a new one
trial fitting the windscreen frame on the rebuilt front , just the windscreen wiper to sort

Re: What have I bought ? Building a Haflinger ex Royal Navy
Went to see a friend to get a few more measurements today
Then drilled the outer frame and welded tubes in for the front bumper mounts and B pillar hoops also for the side panels , cut the ends of the box section for the front corners so that there nice and rounded , then slowly welded it up keeping an eye on which way it was pulling , managed to get them spot on with no need to twist strait - first time for everything pics not too good due to using my phone
B pillar tubes welded in , bit much work involved so for the rear side panels I just welded the tubes in as thought it would be easier to extend the fixings for the sides ,
front corner nearly there
looking good so far trial fitting the front

Re: What have I bought ? Building a Haflinger ex Royal Navy
Steyr Phil, given the wide US readership of these pages, I should point out that to most of (them) a 'MK2 escort' is maybe something VERY different to your friend's RWD throwback. Whilst here in the UK it might be known and loved (by some), I doubt its unremarkable 4 cylinder prowess would stir pulses worldwide.
Unless as I suspected it sounds more like a call girl of some sort.

Hi there,
well done so far! The title of this topic says "Royal Navy Haflinger" - I don't think that this is a RN Haf, but do you have one of these as well?
Regards,
Constantin
