Diesel? Conversion

Post by jkslvr »

Ok

What do you all think.

Adapt a 10-15 hp singe or v twin air cooled diesel to my haflinger.

Recoil or e start. Make some new mounts. A Kennedy adapter for the bell housing and flywheel/ clutch.
Hook up the throtle cables and fuel lines. Custom exhaust.

I was considering it rather than a full factory rebuild. I want more power. And a diesel that small would get amazing fuel consumption.

A fresh rebuild on the Hafi motor will get you around just fine. If yours is a series 1 just have your builder do it to series 2 specifications, 20 hp vs 27 hp.
I had mine built and ballanced for higher rpms and had the oil pressure achilles heel fixed. She now is 29 hp but that is plenty in my book.

Is it not one of the only LWB poly's around!
Hafi motor rebuild is very pricey but if you do the conversion I think the value of your vehicle will plummet!

Unless you can change the overall gear ratios a diesel with its torque is not going to be a lot of use - my modern TDV6 Common Rail 2.7 hi speed diesel only revs to 4500 which is 300 revs lower than my Haffie engine so while you might be able to pull more you will actually drive slower in most circumstances.
