I am trying to order some new rims for the Haffy which could open up tire selections. Here are the questions OEM had:

Thank you for visiting our website. We do not have anything like that sitting on the shelf, but we can certainly build a 14" wheel with a 4/98 bolt pattern and 10mm offset. How much does your Haflinger weigh? What width of wheel do you need? We'll also need some information regarding the hubs and brakes if we are to build a wheel. Let me know what you're looking for and we will work out the details.

Thanks,
Bones

What would I reply with for the wheel width?

14" steel fiat wheels fit vs building custom (or alloys)
But I would say 5-6" for width depending on what tire your thinking of

There are plenty of 14" Lancia, Fiat or Alfa alloy rims around that work well on the Haffie without modification. Most of these are 5" wide.

You can fit Maxxis road legal mud tyres on these plus there are plenty of M&S tyres as well.

Is there a trick to locating these rims? Ebay prices are high, or there is only 1 or 2 wheels available.

I have several U-Pull junk yards around. I may have to stop by

I am having some luck finding the alloys local (MD) for $150 for a set on Craigslist They need to be powder coated but are straight and true. No center caps but those can be found. I was talking to OMF about building performance beadlocks. Thanks for the width replies. I can pass along the price for the beadlocks when I get the estimate if anyone is interested.

There is a website called "Row 52" that lets you search u-pull-it yards for specific cars - pretty handy:

Just remember that if you go with alloys you will need to get new nuts - lug-centric.

It took patience, but after a year of watching kijiji I found a full set of 13" off a Fiat X19. The next day I got 4 155/80 Winterforce tires M+S (I've had these on my LR Discovery as winters for years and loved them.) brand new. Just have to make the time to collect the rims from a friend who collected them for me (700 km away). Had a line on new 15" at $73 each (Cdn). Glad I waited! Good luck!

It depends on the alloy wheel - the Fiat ones I have on mine take the standard Haffie wheel nuts but other wheels as you say may need different wheel nuts.

You can get suitable nuts from http://www.brandsport.com/gorilla-lug-n ... AuvD8P8HAQ

I mean this with the most respect possible - I'm not a huge fan of those wheels. They seem a little too fancy for the vehicle, and draw my attention away from the cool stuff - The awesome doors, pristine top, the color of the Hafie. Its a to each his own type of scenario.

I wonder what they would look like sprayed black?

The custom wheels I was looking at are nice but I don't think I want to spend that much. $250 each for the steel and $400 each for the beadlocks. Back to Fiat I guess?

You may want to check these out. Much less expensive. $73 Cdn each.

Bead lockers are not really needed on Hafi and Pinz as airing down is very dangerous with radials which grab rather than slide like bias ply tyres did. The tyre grabs after lifting and fully extending the suspension and won't slide to let the suspension settle. This causes the truck to roll over just like when you land on the side of your foot, roll onto your ankle and fall. This is why so many end up on their sides.

Cheers, Clive

Could someone share a picture of the 14 inch steel Fiat rims? I may have found some local but want to make sure they are the correct wheels. Thanks.

I found a set of 13" fiat rims plus spare locally. Doesnt look like there is much of a tire selection for 13" either

I think 15 inch is too tall and 6 inches is too wide - 14 inch wheels have good mud tire availability...
