Have owned my 718k for 65 days, have just received my reg plates!
2 inspections by DVS (driving vehicle standard).
Front tow hitch removal required.
Front aerial mount removal required.
Exhaust pipe to be lowered.
Stop light to be fitted to rear door.so when opened at night light can be
seen.
Too much red tape and BULL S#=T I think.
Any way can now drive my 718k after 65 days sitting in the yard .
Has anybody experienced similar problems?

Regards

Gary.

if they (our 'rents) would let me have one for just putting a tail light on the door, i would do that for them.

is there any way to disguise a 718 as a 712?

Illegal to import. They don't meet federal safety standards. The only way around that is the exception for vehicles 25 years old or older, which can be imported as collector cars. That's why we can have the 710's and 712's.

that really is bad news, can`t even think of a disguise, its such a unique shape.
some time in the future I would like to ship my pinz over to the USA and visit some of the places that are mentioned on this forum.
Is this possible with these regulations that you have?

Regards.

If I do that ,you might get addicted to sound of the diesel and the smooth auto change, but I am sure we could come to some agreement.

Ha ha, yeah we want to drive it. Wait, no I don't. Then I'll want what I can't have.

Yes, you can import your truck to drive it here. If it's licensed legally in your country, you can drive it here. I see lots of really neat Euro-campers here during the summer.

Pretty silly that vehicles that are legal to own and operate in Europe aren't "good enough" for us to own.

what's it cost and what do you have to do to take your truck with you on a trip like that?

Its a bit of a 'mare, to be honest... and you also have to be very careful about the local law enforcement in some states. Some good friends of mine brought modified UK Jeeps to the US and drove all around Utah and all over (I'll find the link somewhere!)... but they did have a few run-ins with the law - in one case being escorted across the state line.

Normal way to get them over the pond it to ship them in containers, which takes 2-4 weeks, then fly over and pick them up. You can leave them in the states up to 12 months (I think) but you have to watch that you get the vehicle back in the UK in time to get MOT'd or SORN it....

I'll post the link to my friends adventures when I get a mo.

p/s - See previous posts about getting my 1981 Pinz registered on the IOM - went through first time... now on XMN 712 registration which is v cool (if a little bit sad). 8)

Hello Psychoman
my pinz more than likely would have passed UK reg,as it was originally from there, but being Jersey with our semi independence and different rules & regs made things a bit difficult.

Hi Ka
I have not looked into cost of the trip,as it will be in the distant future, and need to get the pinz comfortable.

Regards.

BTW does your isle of man fire service still use pinzies?

Hiya

Yeah - the IOM test is tougher that the UK one too... always "interesting" when bringing a new vehicle in!

And yep - the IOM Fire Brigade have several Pinz tenders - keep meaning to get a photo of our two 712Ms lines up with them...
