the guy asked who made it and I told him Steyr-Puch. Said he never heard of them, so I told him to look for Pinzgauer and I guess he looked that up on the web cuz he laughed and said Wow-I'll put you on hold--Then he came back and said the supervisor said that it wasn't a family approved vehicle!!!

Try State farm, I have mine covered for $500,000 comp and collision for $639.00 every 6 months, Full coverage cuz I do offroad tours and am required to be fully insured by the forest service, the quote I got for liability was under $300 a year..... but I really don't know why anybody would just have liabilty insurance these days.

I've got full coverage with ALLSTATE. About $1200/year. No mileage or other restrictions.
Listed as a Steyr 712M
Registered as a Utility Truck
I didn't hurt to show the agent that it was similar to my old VW bus,
she had one also and thought it felt the same to sit in, I even pointed out the "VW" turn signal switch and the heater controls.

Erik712m,
Depends on what part of the world you are in. I was with Farmers in San Diego for 25+ years. My agent there could not carry me when I moved to WA., as the policies are local. But, whenever I had a new vehicle (MOG or Pinz) I would just call Dan and give him the vin and make and he quoted me a price that I could live with.
I transferred to the company here with the vehicle policy. Just changed to full coverage for the amount it would take to replace it. Now that I don't drive it every day to work, (retired) I am thinking of vintage plates through DOL. But first I have to find out the milage limit.
The vehicle is a light truck of foreign vintage. At the DMV (in Cal) they noted it did not have the proper number of digits in the vin. I said to just add 0's in front of the existing, as European vehicles are not the same number of places and it really does not matter. Just remember to smile and be very polite, like Mom taught you.

Re: insurance
I own a couple of commercial buildings one with a state farm agent, and one with a farmers. From what both them tell me it's all in how submit it to the under writer? I thought I could have my guy here call your rep to find out how he wrote it. I have progressive know I think it's around $200 a quarter. As neither could compete.krick3tt wrote:Erik712m,

GUess I forgot to mention that it's registered as a SUV and it took 2 tries to get it covered, first state far agent, ( the one who has our homeowners policy and another vehicle told me I'd never get it covered here in Ca and should have thought of that before I bought it, talked to another SF agent my sister told me about and they said come on in and lets give it a try, well walked out 30 min later with a temp binder and had it fully covered by SF with in 48 hours, never had a problem with them as far as the pinz goes, also it might help everyone to know I used to be a licensed insurance agent and knew a lot of the local inroads as far as getting coverage here in Cali is concerned.
Morris are you not driving your truck as much, I would think up there in the PNW you would be driving it a lot more with all that beautuful sceanry you have there, was up in Or and south western Washington in March and had a great time....

Eric,
Just returned from NWMF. Camping for a week in a wheat field. If you have never gone it is worth the trip. Great people.
Everywhere I go up here I have to plan in an extra 30 min just to talk about the pinz to someone. Not many here to see.
Don't drive every day, you would be amazed at how much there is to do when you retire. Sometimes I wonder how I ever fit work in to my day.
Sorry to hijack the thread.

My 710 K had been insured with Mercury when purchasing from local owner. I also had Mercury so it was a little easier for my agent to cover it. Still required visual inspection & photos for underwriter approval. Been fine for three years now. Only the DMV questioned me once about an incorrect VIN but gladly took my money?
Think Jurgen's SDP site had a listing of insurance companies and what people were calling their vehicles for coverage?
