I'd trade you two broken ones for one working one.

I just changed out my original vdo speed (KPH) with cable for an electronic MPH one.
It works fine and is accurate to the GPS, the trip meter resets and works well, but the odometer works sporadically.
Speedo and cable with both ends intact are available- and in Snohomish!

I bought one of those electronic VDO units...it worked for 2000 miles and died.
Replaced the old mechanical one and although it is off due to the 33 inch tires (and on trips I use the GPH) it fills the hole.

Send your speedometer to this place, they do great work

I sent mine there in 2004 and it has worked flawlessly since.

Thilo Kass at http://www.mogsrus.com/ also rebuilds speedometers and resurfaces the face if you want. He's done 2 for me and I'm very happy with them.
