Finally got a 3D model of the C303

Post by MadMax »

Been trying to make my own or source a model for a long time so I can mess around with custom ideas and see how they would work, etc. The dimensions seem to be very accurate, so if I can get it to accurate real-world scale I can actually use the dimensions of the model parts to rough out parts for fabrication. I came across this model from an Arma II mod pack, done by a group of Swedish players. I am now modifying the model to reflect my C303, and beginning to texture it as close as I can.

It is really fun to be able to move around this in 3D Studio Max.

That's awesome!

You going to use that so you can mock up ideas and see how they look?

Exactly that. This will allow me to quickly explore multiple ideas for visual and structural changes or repairs I need to make. I work in 3D, so this is something I have also started to incorporate when possible for things I make in the real world if it solves some problem or helps the workflow. I can do those things without it, but having that tool allows me to do more, like try a lot more ideas, in the same amount of time and with often less work in the final production of the idea. Plus, I have no idea what I am doing so this provides me a safe approach to learning the problems and hopefully recognize a few mistakes before I break out the torch and grinder. SCIENCE!

Additionally, I will upload the final textured version to a virtual environment called SecondLife, where I can script it with animations and physics so it will be driveable by my avatar on my island there. :)

The model you have is excellent and would be cool to have for both a Pinz and Hafi!
Cheers,

Wow, I use my computer for email and Google searches. I once got an Xbox 360 free with the purchase of an iphone. I used it to watch Netflix. I am so amazed when I see stuff like this, it just proves how much of a redneck I am....

That's interesting since my brother is actually in the credits of that game as a 3d modeler; he designed the models for a lot of the guns in that game. At the time, I believe he was the only American working for them on that project.
