Thanks Paul! Lots of good information there, but they never seemed to pin down total production numbers. I'd love to see something that details total manufacture numbers by year (and ideally by model). It's got to be out there somewhere. :)

Well there you have it, the most accuarate source I'm sure! Now my truck has 1971 listed on the door plate, but it registered as a 72.....I'm guessing that mine falls into the 1971 production numbers, correct?

Correct it would be 1971
The 1972 would just be when it was licensed for the 1st time

I would say that your still good with that plate since it is registered as a 72 - it was just built in 71 - so legally (right now) it is a 72. You could apply to change it but not really much point. :?:
Millions of older vehicles are like this - think about a vehicle built in late Dec they get registered as the next year.
Some vehicles sat around on lots so they could be registered a few years after their build date!

Glad you liked the Melbourne JC......Ocean Grove is a nice place.
If you get out here again, look me up and I'II take you 6WDriving in the local bush.
Were they built all in one location??
To my knowledge, there was only one "build" location for all the Pinzgauers and it's assemblies (Steyr Puch, Graz, Austria), but some were "assembled" in local areas......eg most of the early 712's imported into Australia were brought in as CKD kits.....it was just like assembling a piece of IKEA furniture.
They did the same in Malaysia with the TD's.

PUCH-AUTOMOBILE 1900-1990 by Friedrich F Ehn. ISBN 3-900310-54-8.

It's all in German/Austrian, but this is one of the most respected and comprehensive sources for information on Steyr Puch's history, R&D and production that is available.
