718 or 712

Post by Justin Case »

I have the opportunity to buy one of the US 718. Currently I have a 712m, but have never been around the or seen in person the 718. Are the 718's capabilities and updates that much better to justify a upgrade. Your opinions are welcome.

Easy, have one of each! :D

In actual fact thats a difficult question to answer.....I'm sure you'll get lots of various answers, but my personal take on it is boils down to this:

The 718 is better as a long distance tourer.....quieter, better fuel economy, braking, steering etc, and the auto trans is great, but the total vehicle is a bit of a compromise.
"If" the 718 had been designed from the ground up with all the above features I'd say I'd recommend it without a doubt.

The 712 is a better "hard core" off-roader .....I love the air-cooled motor (you can't kill it with a stick) and because the vehicle is true to the original design put down by Hans Ledwinka and his brilliant team of Engineers, off-road I have total trust in it, but for long distance travelling, you need to have shares in Shell.

Given the above, as I said earlier, is you need one of each :D :D :D :D :D
